Goals
The major goal of science fairs is to motivate and stimulate students who have a special interest and talent in science to pursue science-related careers. By doing science research, they learn the nature of science. Science fairs provide a vehicle by which talented science and mathematics students can be recognized just as athletes are recognized in sporting events.
This is the nineteenth year that Rensselaer is hosting the Greater Capital Region Science and Engineering Fair and Science Congress, an affiliate of the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). The STANYS State Science Congress is sponsored by the Science Teachers Association of New York State (STANYS).
Quality research from the Senior Division (grades 912) will be chosen to compete in the Intel ISEF and the STANYS State Science Congress. Quality research from the Junior Division (grades 6-8) will be chosen to compete in the SSP Middle School Program and the STANYS State Science Congress.
