We’ve invested top dollar, time, and talent in our many research centers and facilities. Students will work in one or more of these facilities with prestigious professors doing real research and projects.

Among the Institute’s state-of-the-art computational and laboratory equipment are:

  • Computing resources
  • An electron microprobe
  • A fully automated x-ray facility
  • Parallel processing computers
  • Experimental computer network facilities
  • Nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometers
  • Advanced laser systems
  • An 8,000 square foot clean room
  • Electron diffraction technologies
  • Powerful molecular modeling and rational design tools
  • High-power electron microscopes
  • Molecular beam epitaxy for growing innovative electronic and optical materials
  • 16" Cassegrain telescope in a dedicated observatory

Research Center Facilities

Rensselaer’s new Center for Biotechnology & Interdisciplinary Studies ranks among the world’s most advanced research facilities focused on the application of engineering and the physical and information sciences to the life sciences.

The four labs at the Center for Terahertz Research provide sophisticated facilities for generating, measuring and recording picosecond and femtosecond T-ray signals.

The Bioinformatics Center is equipped with 20 workstations and provides local access to high speed RAID drives for searches of the most generally important biological sequence and structure databases.

The Rensselaer Center for Polymer Synthesis has nearly every characterization tool that polymer scientists need to be on the cutting edge – electrical, chemical, and mechanical. The Center also houses high-bay synthesis and processing labs and equipment, which allows our research to be developed further along the R&D spectrum.

The Darrin Fresh Water Institute has facilities on campus and at Lake George, with a lab at bolton landing, and a $2 million grant for research exploring aquatic resources and groundwater systems.
